Happy Tuesday and welcome back to the blog! We hope you all enjoyed a long weekend and were able to relax. Today is officially the start of June and with that, also the start of Pride Month! Commemorating the Stonewall Uprising in New York City on June 28, 1969, the month is a time to highlight the gay liberation movement, reflect on the progress made and put a spotlight on where we can continue to improve as a more inclusive society. We’ll continue to highlight LGBTQ+ leaders, efforts and groups over these next couple of weeks in June! Now, let’s get into what you need to know for this week.
Upcoming Holidays & Observances

Trends You Should Know
- This weekend, Japanese tennis pro Naomi Osaka made waves in the sports community by deciding to not take part in press conferences during the French Open championship. Although her reason was to protect her mental health during the tournament, officials still fined her $15,000 and threatened to pull her. Yesterday, the athlete decided to pull herself out of the tournament entirely, not wanting to overshadow the other players and to also put herself and her well-being first.
- Athletes around the world are rallying behind Osaka to showcase the issues athletes face trying to juggle being a public figure as well as a normal person who can experience anxiety and depression. While she will be missed, everyone deserves the time and support to take care of themselves, no matter if they’re a celebrity or not.
- After a two-year hiatus, music and arts festival, Coachella, will be returning to the desert in 2022. The festival will be held on April 15-17 and April 22-24, 2022 and tickets go on sale this Friday, June 4. Those who purchased tickets in 2020 before Coachella was cancelled will be able to have their tickets roll over and will be sent new wristbands!
- Heineken is finding a new way to help stop people from drinking and driving. Starting now, Waze users in California will receive branded ads from the beer company when stationary, reminding them to not drink and drive. The ads will target drivers heading to concert venues, restaurants and other big social spots. Through the ad, people can also click to receive credits for a free Uber ride.
- If your closet is 98% Gap clothing, you can now show your love for the brand in your bedroom and living room, too! Gap and Walmart are partnering for a brand of Gap home essentials. They’ll be sold exclusively at Walmart stores and will roll out Thursday, June 24. The line will feature more than 400 home items like bedding, bath towels, home décor and more.
We hope you have a great rest of your week and we’ll see you back on the blog next Monday!
