Happy Monday! We hope everyone had a relaxing weekend as we prepare for the holiday season to kick off next Thursday. Use this week to make and finalize your grocery list, prep the guest room for out-of-town visitors and bring the good china out from the attic. Now that you’re almost Thanksgiving ready, let’s look ahead to what’s happening this week.
Upcoming Holidays & Observances
- Thanksgiving – Nov. 26
- Black Friday – Nov. 27
- Small Business Saturday – Nov. 28
Trends You Should Know
- With Thanksgiving a little over a week away, the pressure to make a perfect meal may be too much for some to handle. For those whose idea of cooking is putting a dish in the microwave, Progressive Insurance and Whole Foods have your back in case of a culinary disaster. The insurance company, alongside the grocery giant, will be offering a Thanksgiving Turkey Protection Plan which offers a $35 Whole Foods gift card for people who have a turkey meltdown.
- Peloton lovers, you’ll be excited about this one. The fitness brand just announced a multi-year deal with Beyoncé to create themed workout experiences based on her music. The partnership will also give back to the Black community, with special workout experiences and free memberships planned to be given to students at historically Black college and universities.
- Big news came from the Miami area last week in the baseball world. It was announced that Kim Ng will be brought aboard the Miami Marlins as their new general manager. This is the first time that a female has been hired as a general manager in the MLB, and potentially the first female manager for any of the major men’s sports leagues in the U.S.! Starting as an intern, Ng has held several executive positions on the New York Yankees, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and most recently as the MLBs senior vice president of baseball operations. Way to go, girl!
- We reported two weeks ago that Santa appearances at malls this holiday season will be scarce. Thankfully, a Raleigh-based company is stepping up to the plate to make sure every child gets the chance to chat with Santa this year. Virtual Claus lets kids chat with the Big Man and tell him what they want for Christmas virtually through a video chat. All parents have to do is make an online reservation for a time slot, send the Virtual Claus team some details about their child and then hop on the chat. Afterwards, the child receives a personalized email from Santa along with a photo from their video call. Socially distant and a great way to keep the holiday cheer alive!
Cheers to another great week and we’ll see you back on the blog next Monday!
