Celebrating Pride Month 2023

June 23, 2023

Pride Month is celebrated in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, a tipping point for the LGBTQIA+ rights movement in the United States. The Stonewall Uprising occurred at the Stonewall Inn, a bar that was meant to be a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community. In the early morning on June 28, 1969, police raided the bar which caused riots, six days of protesting, and clashes with the police. The Stonewall Inn is still open today and is now a national monument in New York City.

On June 28, 1970, the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, the first Pride marches were held in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Since then, annual Pride traditions have been embraced across the country and around the world.

If you’re looking for ways to keep the momentum going and continue celebrating Pride Month, here are the must-attend parades, festivals and events happening in a city near you.
