Happy Monday and welcome back to the blog! Memorial Day is next Monday and since we’ll be out of the office for the holiday, we want to start the blog off by honoring all the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. This weekend is also one of the biggest for summer travel, with roughly 37 million Americans planned to head out on the roads. With that in mind, make sure to plan to fill up your tank in advance, get the AC ready and have snacks packed up, in case you hit some unexpected traffic with tens of millions of other drivers! Since we have a busy week ahead of us before the holiday, let’s get right into the trends you need to know for the last week of May.
Upcoming Holidays & Observances
- National Road Trip Day – May 28
- Memorial Day – May 31
- National Say Something Nice Day – June 1
- D-Day – June 6
Trends You Should Know
- This weekend Simone Biles accomplished a feat never done before – and no, it wasn’t rocking a leotard with a bedazzled goat on it, although she did that too! The defending world champion gymnast became the first woman to land a Yurchenko double pike vault at the GK US Classic. A move done only by men in the past, the Yurchenko double pike is incredibly difficult, starting with a roundoff, followed by a back handspring and wrapped up with a piked double backflip into the air. Just writing that made my muscles hurt!
- It’s about time that men had some options for concealer. MLB great (and New York Yankee) Alex Rodriguez announced that he is collaborating with self-care company, Hims & Hers, to create a concealer designed specifically for men. The Blur Stick hopes to become a practical solution for getting rid of blemishes and cover razor bumps. The concealer is available in eight shades and is priced at $17.
- Dating apps are evolving with the times! With more and more people around the U.S. getting vaccinated, apps like Hinge, Tinder and Bumble are incorporating vaccination status within user profiles. With this, users are able to share their status and share their preference in their dating partners’ status within the app.
- Have you been seeing more restaurants pop up in the DoorDash app than ever? It may surprise you to hear that several of these aren’t even restaurants – they’re “virtual restaurants” or “ghost kitchens.” They’re for delivery only and serve you food directly from a different restaurant under a different name. While started by “mom and pop” shops to try to have as many names out there as possible, chains are getting in on the trend. Wing-focused spot Hooters now has “Hootie’s Burger Bar” and Chuck E. Cheese has “Pasqually’s Pizza & Wings” (Pasqually is a chef within the animatronic band at the restaurant!).
We hope you have a great rest of your week and we’ll see you back on the blog nextTuesday, following our observance of Memorial Day!
