Here's some tips on starting the new year off with the best intentions

This time of year brings themes of gratitude and reflection as we prepare to wrap up 2024 and kickstart the 2025 new year. Whether that’s exploring new hobbies, making travel plans or spending more time outside, there are so many things to look forward to when a new year begins.

For those seeking more tangible paths to pursue, let us walk through small steps that may serve as benefits to enhance mind, body and more as we all put our best foot forward next month!

Prioritize Health

Once the indulgence of the holidays passes, prioritizing mental and physical health is top of mind. At Bolt PR, we recognize this is key to successful work performance, as work-life-balance ensures team members are rested, recharged and ready to deliver. Studies show that those who embark on fitness resolutions in the new year struggle to stick with their new habit, and as many as 80% of resolutions fail by February.

Looking for a motivator and one that may kick-start some momentum? Use up those post-holiday gift cards and consider purchasing a new high-performance shoe. There’s nothing better than looking and feeling strength and style while hitting the pavement.  Before the family wakes up, during lunchtime, or really anywhere in the day to make healthier choices to walk or take the stairs are great starting points!

From a health perspective, the month of January is often branded as, “Dry January.” While the last sip at midnight is always an ultimate treat, resetting from the inside out coupled with optimal hydration practices is of utmost importance. Our team has worked closely in this space with our client The Osmolality Lab, which is leading the way in the hydration testing industry as a global authority in the field of osmolality science. Through their expertise, The Osmolality Lab provides testing and certification services based on the highest scientific standards for rapid rehydration and fluid retention are great ways to take care of the body in recovery mode while embarking on a new routine.

Last but certainly not least when it comes to your health, it’s important to prioritize sleep. With the heightened affliction of checking notifications, scrolling through feeds, and online shopping at our fingertips, it can be challenging to take time to step away from our ever-connected world. While daylight savings still feels like it’s wreaking havoc on our schedules, there are so many added health benefits from a restful night. While searching for mood boosters or managing food cravings, this may be the optimal discovery for an overall wellness approach.

In addition to prioritizing mental and physical health outside of the workplace, making progress and hitting personal goals starts from the inside out. Bolt PR’s Bolt Balance program is an internal program focused on promoting work-life balance through daily, weekly and quarterly efforts to find that balance. With perks such as an extra hour of “What I Need,” (WIN) time, Deep Work Fridays to focus on deeper and more thoughtful projects and quarterly wellness retreats featuring timely health and wellness practices, Bolt Balance allows up to proactively apply work-life to our everyday workflows for a healthy workplace culture.

Set Goals

Goal-setting is a traditional activity around this time of year, but many may not know where to start. For our team, weekly, monthly, quarterly and even yearly goals drive us forward as we forecast quarterly plans for clients that highlight the most optimized topics to have their brand, products or services at the forefront of decision-making. We also set personal goals, as we strive for individual growth and professional development. Our Bolt Exceeds Program holds us accountable and ensures that we’re always tracking in delivering results. While goal setting often occurs in the workplace, the new year is an excellent time to set goals for yourself.

For instance, there are means to expand learnings with certifications that can be accomplished in as little as ten hours and offered accessibly online. If strengthening project management skills is of interest, consider a word-of-the-day calendar that can expand vocabulary usage over time. The ability to learn a new language will always be a skill set that will have lasting applications, as there are so many apps offered through iPhone or Android that can help. Some of our favorites are Babbel or Duolingo to name a few. Whatever it may be, it’s never too late to set a goal and start something new!

Plan Ahead

While work-life balance is a theme here, work-life focus is also imperative. There are so many great benefits that may come with contributing to a gratitude journal. According to a study published in Psychiatry, gratitude is associated with increased happiness, reduced depressive symptoms and enhanced overall well-being.

When planning ahead, a trend that’s gaining popularity are the added benefits that come with taking solo vacations as resetting the long weekend away can cure the heart and mind. Whether on a road trip to visit friends or family, or finally cashing in on those air miles, The Mayo Clinic offers up some really great benefits to control stress management and what nature can do to help prioritize. If a big trip isn’t in the cards right now, start small as spending more time outside aids with the most intrusive of to-do lists.

Through our Bolt Back program, team members are encouraged to spend time outside of the workplace and in our communities giving back to the people and organizations that mean the most to us. In-kind, our community involvement and volunteering efforts expand outside of Bolt PR with causes we feel passionately connected to. By giving back through philanthropic activities within the amazing communities we all remotely have passions for, having the ability and dedicated time to pursue these passions is what fuels our culture.

Stay Curious

In the new year, we will continue to challenge ourselves to remain ever-curious. Our agency specializes in a variety of industries that keep our clients moving forward with an appetite to uncover new stones and learn more every step of the way. From consumer tech to hospitality, we are all motivated to enhance the PR and marketing mix that puts our clients front and center. A method to achieve this is the notion of staying curious, evaluating trends for newsjacking opportunities, and thinking creatively at all times. Research and development go beyond client calls and each team member stays up-to-date through their own organization methods. From these experiences or networking opportunities, we all come together on a quarterly basis to cover topics that are most timely and important to us.

A career at Bolt PR means constant growth as we all contribute to an internal learning program called Bolt Up. Each quarter we present on-the-job experiences through team training and guidance to help ensure personal and professional development across all varying team skill sets and tenure. As a people-first agency, this program is designed to enhance our employees’ skills, challenge their knowledge, and give them direct access to experienced team members who can help propel their pathway forward.

At Bolt PR, we wholeheartedly embrace a people-first approach, recognizing that our team is our greatest strength. So lace up with us as we head into the new year feeling inspired to set out for new opportunities with these approachable New Year’s resolutions in mind.
